US opens higher amid data, earnings

Major equities in the United States opened higher on Thursday, as investors awaited new earnings reports. Notably, the US Bureau of Economic Analysis announced a 2% quarterly increase in the US gross domestic product (GDP), while the US Labor Department reported a decrease in the number of initial jobless claims.

Additionally, Merck, Caterpillar and Comcast already announced their earnings, and companies including Amazon, Gilead Sciences, Starbucks and Apple are all expected to do the same by the end of the day.

The Dow Jones opened 0.46% in the green, as Visa Inc. gained 1.67%. The Nasdaq 100 increased by 0.58%, as KLA Corp rose 7.08%. Similarly, the S&P 500 rose 0.60%, as Ford Motor Co traded 10.06% higher. The euro added 0.34% against the dollar at 9:24 am ET, selling for 1.16426, while the pound increased 0.11% against the greenback to go for $1.37602 at the same time.
