US opens higher as earnings-heavy week kicks off

Shares on the major stock market indexes in the United States started the first week of February with gains as the traders await a fresh slew of earnings scheduled for release in the coming days.

A group of Republican senators will have a meeting with US President Joe Biden, in a feat to get him to amend the stimulus package he proposed earlier. On the data front, the investors will keep an eye on the reports regarding the manufacturing sector activity, and the construction spending in the country.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 0.90% or 269 points as the session started with American Express growing 2.35% at 9:42 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 concurrently jumped 1.23% as NXP Semiconductors gained 6.36% a minute into the session. At the opening bell, the S&P 500 soared 1.06%. The euro dropped 0.31% versus the dollar, selling for 1.20974 at 9:28 am ET.
