US opens mixed with Powell's speech, data in focus

Equities on the major United States indices kicked off the session mixed on Thursday as the investors digested the weekly report on the initial jobless claims data, which was slightly better than what was expected by analysts.

The traders will also keep a keen eye on the speech which Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell is scheduled to deliver less than 3 hours into the trading bout.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average started the session up by 0.16% with Boeing rising 1.74%. The Nasdaq 100 slid 0.11% at the opening bell with Okta losing 6.6% a minute later. The S&P 500 stood flat as the session started. Minutes into trading, all three major benchmarks moved to positive territory. The euro declined by 0.21% versus the dollar, selling for 1.20376 at 9:34 am ET.
