US policy against Iran working - envoy

United States Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook (pictured) stated that the White House policy of "maximum pressure" against Iran is working and that Tehran is reducing its funding to the allies in the region.

Speaking in front of the US House Foreign Affairs subcommittee, Hook said that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has emboldened Iran and that it would lead to an "inevitable" conflict in ten years.

US envoy also refused to rule out some military intervention in the region aimed against Iranian assets, while he claimed that the US intelligence community doesn't question if Tehran was involved in the recent attack on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman. Asked about the White House's stance on tanker attacks and why US President Donald Trump called the incident "minor," Hook added that the strike was minor compared to the "significant" attacks which were expected at the time.
