US records 100,000 COVID-19 cases a day - Walensky

Director of the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Rochelle Walensky (pictured) stated on Wednesday the country has seen an increase of COVID-19 infected cases over the past five weeks, estimating 100,000 cases a day.

During the White House COVID-19 response team briefing, Walensky underlined that the number of deaths has significantly decreased despite the growing number of hospitalized coronavirus patients. She also invited her fellow compatriots to follow prevention measures in order to reduce the spread of the disease, by still implementing practices of wearing masks as well as taking self-tests before large gatherings.

Coordinator of the COVID-19 response, Dr. Ashish Jha asserted the team has requested additional funding from the Congress in order to provide a substantial number of "the new generation of vaccines" before fall, noting that Congress must be aware of the consequences in case they deny the funding.
