US retail sales up 0.6% MoM in August

Seasonally adjusted advance estimates of retail and food services sales for August in the United States increased by 0.6% to $537.5 billion compared to the previous month, the US Census Bureau said in a report released on Wednesday. Despite the increase, the figure came in below analysts' expectations.

On an annual basis, retail and food services sales climbed 2.6% from August 2019.

Retail trade sales rose 0.1% in August month on month and jumped 5.1% year-on-year. Nonstore retailers' sales soared 22.4% on an annual basis, while clothing and clothing accessories store sales plunged 20.4% year on year.
