US retail sales up 0.7% in September

Retail and food services sales in the United States increased 0.7% in September on a monthly basis to stand at $625.4 billion, a report from the Census Bureau published on Friday showed. The figure was up 13.9% per annum.

Retail trade sales advanced 0.8% compared to the prior month and 12.2% year-over-year. In the same period, food and beverage stores climbed 0.7% and 7.0% respectively. Gasoline stations reported the highest annual increase, jumping 38.2% compared to 2020 and 1.8% versus the previous month.

The agency also revised the August figure to $620.9 billion, or a 0.9% growth.
