US retail sales up 1.2% in July

The value of retail and food services sales stood at $536 billion in July, representing a rise of 1.2% on a monthly and a gain of 2.7% year-over-year, unadjusted for price changes, the United States Census Bureau announced in an advanced estimate on Friday.

Total sales for the period of three months ending in July dropped by 0.2% compared to the same period a year ago. Meanwhile, retail trade sales were 0.8% higher than in June and increased by 5.8% in comparison to June 2019.

Non-store retailers recorded a surge of 24.7%, while e food and beverage stores had 11.1% growth on a yearly basis.
