US retail sales up by 0.4% in August

The value of retail and food services sales in August reached $526.1 billion, an increase of 0.4% monthly and 4.1% annually unadjusted for price changes, according to an advance estimate from the United States Census Bureau released on Friday. In the three months through August, total sales were up 3.7% compared to the same period a year ago.

Retail trade sales were up 0.6% in the three months from June 2019, that is up 4.6% year-over-year. At 16%, non-store retailers experienced the largest growth since August 2018, followed by motor vehicles and parts dealers whose sales were up 6.8% from last year, the report said.
