US sanctions individual over arms trade between N. Korea, Russia
United States Department of the Treasury expanded on Thursday its list of sanctions against North Korea, including a Slovakian individual who attempted to trade arms "or related material" between North Korea and Russia.
According to the press release, the person in question is Ashot Mkrtychev, and will not be able to engage in transactions involving properties under US financial institutions' control unless authorized by OFAC or expressly exempted by statute.
From late 2022 to early 2023, Mkrtychev reportedly worked with DPRK functionaries to obtain more than two dozen weapons and ammunition for Russia in exchange for supplies ranging from commercial aircraft, raw materials, and commodities to be shipped to the DPRK.
