US sanctions Iranians over 'assassination plots'
The United States Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) said on Thursday it has sanctioned five people working for or linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including Shahram Poursafi, over their alleged involvement in "plotting external lethal operations against civilians including journalists and activists."
A Turkey-based airline affiliated with the IRGC-Qods Force (IRGC-QF) was also targeted by today's measures.
"We will continue to expose and disrupt these terrorist activities and efforts to silence opposing voices, particularly those who advocate for respect for the universal human rights and freedoms of the Iranian people," US Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson stated.
