US senators call for more Russia sanctions

A group of Democratic and Republican senators introduced a legislation on Wednesday calling for further United States sanctions against "Putin's Russia" in response to its actions regarding Syria and Ukraine.

"The comprehensive legislation seeks to increase economic, political, and diplomatic pressure on the Russian Federation in response to Russia’s interference in democratic processes abroad, malign influence in Syria, and aggression against Ukraine, including in the Kerch Strait," Democrat Bob Menendez's (pictured) office said in a statement. The bill called Defending American Security from Kremlin Aggression Act (DASKA) was introduced by Menendez, as well as Democrats Ben Cardin and Jeanne Shaheen and Republicans Lindsey Graham and Cory Gardner.

The senators blasted Moscow for allegedly meddling in US elections, "kidnapping" Ukrainian soldiers in the Kerch Strait and causing "chaos" in Syria. The statement added that the bill also prevents US President Donald Trump from pulling the country out of NATO.
