US senators slam Apple for refusing to testify at antitrust hearing

Bipartisan leaders of the United States Senate Subcommittee on Competition Policy, Antitrust, and Consumer Rights, Amy Klobuchar and Mike Lee, said on Friday that Apple has refused to take part in the subcommittee's hearing on antitrust issues next week.

"A little more than two weeks before the planned hearing, Apple abruptly declared that it would not provide any witness," the senators stated in a letter and called the move "unacceptable." Democrat Klobuchar and Republican Lee added they have written to Apple CEO Tim Cook urging him to reconsider its decision not to send anyone to the hearing set to take place in late April.

Apple and Google have come under fire by app makers over strict rules for inclusion in their app stores and fees and revenue sharing percentage on in-app purchases. Google reportedly agreed to appear at the antitrust hearing.
