US shares open lower ahead of Powell testimony

Stock markets in the United States started the session with losses on Tuesday ahead of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s testimony in Congress. Also, investors are worried since the Nasdaq and the benchmark S&P 500 recorded the biggest one-day percentage drops in February on Monday amid inflation fears.

The Dow Jones was down by 0.20% at the open with Apple as the worst performer falling by 4.32% at 9:31 am ET. The S&P 500 lost 0.70% at the same time as Tesla went down by 12.18%. The Nasdaq 100 dropped 1.82% at 9:30 am ET, as Zoom Video Communications decreased by 7.49%.

The euro stood flat compared to the dollar and sold for 1.21532 at 9:26 am ET.
