US-Iran talks may be 'heading toward an impasse'

Washington warned on Friday that the talks with Iran could reach a deadlock if Iran continues to insist the United States remove all sanctions against the country.

"The United States team put forward some very serious ideas, demonstrated a seriousness of purpose. It remains to be seen whether that seriousness of purpose is matched by Iran," a State Department official told media.

During the negotiations, Iranian officials refused to meet directly with US officials. The talks were instead conducted indirectly through envoys from other signatories of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. They are expected to continue next week in a similar format.
