US starts antidumping probe of Chinese goods

Prices of aluminum wire and cable, mattresses and refillable kegs made of stainless steel from China came under scrutiny by the United States Department of Commerce on Friday. The announcement reveals import duties would be imposed on the goods if it concludes they are being dumped.

The aluminum products and kegs are also targeted by countervailing duty probes, aimed at discovering whether they are being unfairly subsidized. Authorities said they would also look at the shipments of the latter category from Germany and Mexico. China is suspected of dumping margins for kegs of 202.42%, while the alleged levels for the other two countries are 72.8% and 18.48%, respectively. American Keg Co. Llc. has filed the complaint.

Encore Wire Corp. and Southwire Co. Llc initiated the probe for dumping margins for wire and cable said to be from 53.54% to 63.47%. The mattresses case was set into motion by a group of producers including Leggett and Platt Inc. and Tempur Sealy International Inc., accusing Chinese competitors of dumping margins between 258.74% and 1,731.75%.
