US State Department to form cyber security bureau - report

The Biden Administration is working on implementing organizational changes in the United States State Department that would allow it to appropriately confront cybersecurity challenges, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.

According to unnamed officials, the overhaul includes the creation of a new bureau of cyberspace and digital policy to be led by an ambassador-at-large and a special envoy for critical and emerging technology. According to the report, the changes will be announced this week by Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

"There is no perfect neat organizational solution for an organization of our size," one of the senior sources said, reflecting on Secretary Blinken’s view that cyber threats pose a vital risk to US security.
