US to pause J&J vaccine use due to blood clots

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced on Tuesday that they are calling for an immediate pause in the use of Johnson & Johnson's single-dose COVID-19 vaccine due to six recipients developing blood clots within two weeks of receiving the jab.

According to the CDC data, nearly 7 million US citizens have received Johnson & Johnson vaccines so far, with an additional 9 million doses shipped out to the states. Of the six recipients that experienced blood clots, one has died and another has been hospitalized and is in critical condition. All six recipients were women of ages between 18 and 48.

Inoculation with the Johnson & Johnson jabs has not yet started in the European Union. The European Medicines Agency began a review on potential links between blood clots and the vaccine on Friday.
