US to place 25% tariffs on French goods

The United States announced it will impose 25% tariffs on €1.1 billion worth of French goods over the country's digital tax.

US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer (pictured) said that the tax "unfairly targets American companies," adding that the levy wouldn't go into effect until January 2021.

The move comes after French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire insisted the country will not discriminate against Huawei despite Washington's calls to ban the Chinese company from its 5G network. Le Maire also previously stated the plans for digital taxation won't be affected by Washington's threats.
