US to unveil sanctions against Russia, China - report

The United States is expected to announce new sanctions against Russia and China on Friday, the Wall Street Journal reported. According to sources, most of the measures will be taken under the Magnitsky Act, which allows the US to sanction foreign officials for human rights abuses and corruption.

Around 170 Chinese entities will reportedly be sanctioned for illegal fishing in the Pacific, as well as for human rights violations in Tibet. Measures against Russia will target those in charge of filtration camps for Ukrainians, accused of war crimes. Outside of the Magnitsky Act, Russian industry entities will also allegedly face punitive measures for buying Iranian drones for use in Ukraine.
