US trade deficit widens to $49.4B in April

The United States international goods and services trade deficit grew by $7.1 billion month on month to stand at $49.4 billion in April due to the coronavirus crisis, the US Census Bureau and the US Bureau of Economic Analysis said in a report on Thursday. On an annual basis, the trade deficit jumped 16.7% compared to April 2019.

Exports from the US stood at $151.3 billion, dropping by 20.5% from March, while imports amounted to $200.7 billion, falling 13.7% month-on-month.

The US' trade deficit with China rose by $9 billion to $26 billion in April with exports rising $2.1 billion to $9.3 billion and imports from China jumping by 11 billion to $35.2 billion.
