US Treasury to decide on Trump's taxes by May 6

United States Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the Treasury will miss the second deadline to release US President Donald Trump's tax returns. The House Ways and Means Committee requested six years of Trump's tax returns earlier this month.

Mnuchin wrote to the committee Chairman Richard Neal, stating that, "due to the serious constitutional questions raised by this request and the serious consequences that a resolution of those questions could have for taxpayer privacy," the Treasury is consulting with the Department of Justice and expects to provide a final decision by May 6. Mnuchin added that "private tax return information is susceptible to abuse for partisan purposes." Meanwhile, the president cited being under audit as the reason he did not release his tax returns and added his team is "working that out."
