US turns to gains in volatile session ahead of Powell's remarks

Shares on the major stock market indexes in the United States turned to trading with gains on Thursday, after having started the week's fourth session mixed, and shortly sliding below the flatline in what appears to be a volatile trading bout for the major benchmarks.

The investors will keep an eye on the speech by Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, and the latest developments on the COVID-19 relief front.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 0.42% or 133 points at 11:51 am ET, while the Nasdaq 100 gained 0.80% at the same time. A minute later, the S&P 500 was up by 0.50%. The euro lost 0.13% against the dollar at 11:55 am ET, selling for 1.20468.
