US, UK agencies warn of Russian 'malicious cyber activity'

British National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), together with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Homeland Security from the US issued a warning on Monday about "malicious cyber activity" sponsored by the Russian state.

The alert cautions about increased activity by Russian-sponsored cyber entities which aims to "extract intellectual property, maintain persistent access to victim networks and potentially lay a foundation for future offensive operations". The activity has been reported by "multiple sources," the alert said, targeting government organization, private entities and Internet Service Providers (ISPs), as well as infrastructure.

"This is the first time that in attributing a cyber attack to Russia the US and the UK have, at the same time, issued joint advice to industry about how to manage the risks from attacks," said NCSC chief Ciaran Martin.
