US will support Ukrainian sovereignty - Psaki

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki stated in a press conference on Thursday that the US will continue to support Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and will continue closely monitoring the political and military situation amid the possibility of a Russian invasion.

Commenting on the reported surrounding of Ukraine by Russian forces, Psaki said: "We are continuing to strongly encourage US citizens who are in Ukraine to depart." She also noted that the US government is working on various ways in which the evacuation of citizens could be carried out in case of an emergency.

Psaki also stated that the US will continue to be in close contact with its European allies and deal with any security concerns that they might bring to the table. She also underlined NATO's commitment to closely tracking the situation and the potential deployment of the 85,000 troops that NATO allies currently have at their disposal. According to the White House official, Washington's assessment that Russia could invade Ukraine at any time has not changed.
