US won't join Moscow's format of Afghanistan talks

The spokesman for the United States Department of State Ned Price stated during a briefing on Monday that an American delegation will not be joining talks on Afghanistan organized by Moscow, but the US supports the negotiations and doesn't rule out its participation in the future.

Price noted that the extended "Troika" format that includes Russia, United States, China and Pakistan remains an effective and constructive forum that the US government is looking forward to engaging in in the future.

The upcoming talks on Afghanistan are scheduled to take place on October 20 in Moscow and will involve Taliban officials from the interim Kabul government. The Moscow format was created in 2017 for cross consultations of 6 sides: Russia, Afghanistan, India, Iran, China and Pakistan.
