Vaccinations, US stimulus improved economic outlook - ECB minutes

The ongoing vaccination process, along with the positive impact that the United States COVID-19 relief has had on the economy, helped the global economic outlook improve, the European Central Bank (ECB) said in its monetary policy meeting accounts released on Thursday.

The bank added that "ample monetary stimulus" was still a requirement in order for the financing conditions to remain favorable in terms of reaching the inflation target in the euro area.

The ECB members agreed that purchases under the pandemic emergency purchase programme (PEPP) need to be increased in the coming period, attributing the need to "the lack of a material improvement in the growth and inflation outlook."
