Varadkar: UK proposal doesn't meet agreed backstop objectives

In the phone conversation with his British counterpart Boris Johnson (pictured right), Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar (pictured left) told the leader of the United Kingdom's government his latest Brexit proposals didn't fully meet the agreed objectives of the backstop.

The taoiseach asserted he will study the proposals further and consult European Union's institutions and partners, adding he wants to see the deal agreed and ratified.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, European Union's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier, and British opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn all expressed concerns over London's proposals.
