Volker: I misunderstood Burisima probe request at first

Former United States Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker told Congress on Tuesday that he misunderstood requests from the Trump administration to investigate energy company Burisima over corruption at first and never thought they amounted to "investigating former Vice President Joe Biden."

Speaking at the Trump impeachment inquiry hearings, Volker said: "In hindsight, I now understand that others saw the idea of investigating possible corruption involving the Ukrainian company, 'Burisma,' as equivalent to investigating former Vice President Biden. I saw them as very different — the former being appropriate and unremarkable, the latter being unacceptable." Volker, who is appeared before the House Intelligence Committee as a witness called by the Republicans, added: "In retrospect, I should have seen that connection differently, and had I done so, I would have raised my own objections."

Besides Volker, other individuals that testified in the impeachment inquiry on Tuesday are the people that listened to President Donald Trump's July 25 Ukraine call: former National Security Aide Tim Morrison, Vice Presidential aide Jennifer Williams and National Security Council aide Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman.
