Wall Street closes lower as trade stays hottest topic

Major stock market indexes closed lower on Tuesday after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that the United States Senate would not pass the United States-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade deal before the end of the year. Meanwhile, investors stayed focused on reports on the phase one trade deal between the US and China as new tariffs are set to kick in on December 15 unless an agreement is reached.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.10% at the end of the trading day. The Nasdaq 100 was down 0.10% and the S&P 500 finished 0.11% in the red. Netflix lost 3.10% after analyst reports claimed the streaming service could lose up to 4 million subscribers in the US in 2020 and 3M was down 1.27% at the end of the day.

The euro was flat compared to the dollar as it declined 0.01% to 1.10948 at 4:02 pm ET.
