Wall Street closes lower on Trump's China trade remarks

Stock markets in the United States closed lower on Thursday as US President Donald Trump cast doubts over the possibility of a trade deal with China. The Chinese trade delegation is in Washington for a fresh round of trade negotiations, but Trump's comments, including that China "has become very spoiled" could affect the likelihood of success. Meanwhile, US initial jobless claims were up 11,000 and reached 222,000. Retail giant Walmart posted its quarterly earnings report today.

The Dow Jones fell 0.22% at the closing bell. Cisco Systems Inc. was down 3.81% after its earnings report on Wednesday.

The S&P 500 lost 0.09% at the end of the session. Nektar Therapeutics plummeted 7.66%.

The Nasdaq closed 0.41% lower as NetEase Inc. slid 7.46%.

The euro decreased 0.1% compared to the dollar at 10:01 pm CET, and sold for 1.1795.
