Wall Street ends higher as Qualcomm surges 23%

Wall Street closed mostly with gains on Tuesday investors trusted stocks after a good start to the earnings season. Sentiment in Europe also influenced US indexes to finish with gains. During the day, oil prices turned green while gold reached a year-to-date low. Data from the National Association of Home Builders showed builder morale improved in April and Apple and Qualcomm reached a settlement that led the latter's shares to jump over 20%.

The Dow increased as much as 145 points during the day and ended 0.26% in the green. Boeing was the best performer in the index as the company's shares rose 1.67% following reports the FAA described its 737 MAX software update as "operationally suitable."

The Nasdaq 100 increased 0.34% at the closing bell, led by Qualcomm's jump of 23.21%.

The S&P 500 was flat-to-lower shortly before the end of the day, but it recovered in the last minutes of trade to finish 0.05% higher.

The euro lost 0.19% against the dollar to change hands at 1.12831 at 4:04 pm ET.

IBM and Netflix are reporting their quarterly earnings after the bell.
