Wall Street opens higher after data, trade deal signing

Wall Street started trading with significant gains on Thursday with major indexes reaching all-time highs after the United States and China finally penned their phase one trade deal. Before the opening bell, data from the US showed a decrease in jobless claims in the week ending January 11 and a rise in retail sales in December.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 0.48% at 9:30 am ET with Apple leading the top stocks as it traded 1.04% higher at 3:51 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 was up by 0.58% at 9:30 am ET and Splunk led the gains as it rose 1.76% at 9:34 am ET. The S&P 500 went 0.47% up at 9:30 am ET as Morgan Stanley jumped 6.25% at 9:31 am ET following its earnings release.

The euro was flat compared to the dollar as it went for 1.11550 at 9:32 am ET.
