Walmart aims for zero emissions by 2040

Walmart wants to achieve zero emissions across its global operations by 2040, the company announced on Monday.

"We want to play an important role in transforming the world’s supply chains to be regenerative. We face a growing crisis of climate change and nature loss and we all need to take action with urgency," Walmart CEO Doug McMillion said.

According to the plans, Walmart will use renewable energy sources in all of its facilities by 2035. The company will also look to use electric vehicles, including long-haul trucks only to zero-out emissions by 2040. Additionally, Walmart stressed it will replace current solutions with low-impact refrigerants for heating and cooling in stores, data centers, distribution centers and clubs. Finally, the retial giant pointed out it will be working with the Walmart Foundation on sustainability and preservation efforts.
