Washington luring TSMC to produce in US - report

The United States wants Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) to start producing the high-security components for the US Army on American soil, sources told Nikkei Asian Review on Wednesday.

The world's largest chipmaker found itself under ramped up pressure amid Washington's fears that potential Chinese interference in Taiwanese company's production may pose a security risk to the US as TSMC makes chips for F-35 fighter jets.

"The U.S. government wants chips that go into military projects to be built on American soil," a senior Taiwanese government official asserted, adding that the US "doesn't plan to back off on that."
