Welsh leader calls talks with Ford constructive

Mark Drakeford, first minister of Wales, said that he held discussions again on Friday with "senior executives" of Ford Motor Co. about its decision to shut down the engine plant in Bridgend by September of next year. "The conversation was constructive, with an emphasis on the need to support the workforce and wider community, as well as identifying opportunities for the future," he added.

The Welsh leader made the statement, in which he vowed to "press" the automotive giant to "reconsider" the plan for the closure, as workers were holding a consultative vote. Unite said it was authorized to represent them and revealed employees are ready to strike to protect their jobs.

The automotive giant has denied Brexit was a factor behind the pullout despite concerns it expressed earlier regarding the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union.
