WH: OPEC+'s call sign it has aligned with Russia

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre slammed on Wednesday the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies' (OPEC+) decision to cut their production of oil by two million barrels per day (bpd) starting from November as a "clear" sign the group has sided with Russia in the wake of that country's military operation in Ukraine.

Speaking to journalists, Jean-Pierre opted not to comment more on the matter but added the United States sees the decision as a mistake.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden described the move as "unnecessary [...] in light of the uncertainty that surrounds the global economic and oil market outlooks, and the need to enhance the long-term guidance for the oil market." Meanwhile, National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby stressed the need for the US to become less dependent on foreign countries when it comes to the production of oil.
