WH's Campbell: China has modernized nuclear capabilities

US Deputy Assistant to the President and Indo-Pacific Coordinator Kurt Campbell (pictured) claimed Thursday that China had undertaken a significant "modernization" of its nuclear capabilities.

However, he added that even though it has been challenging to discuss with China its nuclear buildups, he stressed the United States needs to "make clear" that its "nuclear deterrent" remains strong in the Indo-Pacific.

"The most important ingredient begins at home. To be effective in the pacific, we have to make substantive investments at home," Campbell expressed in a conversation with Joseph Nye at Aspen Security Forum.
