WH says GOP-led House must propose budget plan
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre underscored during the press briefing on Thursday that Republican-led House of Representatives should put forward budget plan for the next fiscal year outlining fiscal priorities, confirming that United States President Joe Biden will do so on March 9.
"It was a very good discussion," Jean-Pierre noted referring to the previously held talks between the US 46th president and the House speaker, Kevin McCarthy. The two will hold "continuing" discussions about the nation's deficit and actions needed to reduce it, according to the White House press secretary.
"The debt ceiling needs to be lifted without conditions," Jean-Pierre reiterated, underlining that it is the constitutional duty of Congress to "get it done." "It is up to Congress to live out their congressional duty to avoid economic catastrophe," the White House press secretary quoted Biden.
