WHO, China to inspect COVID-19 response

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced on Friday that a group of 12 international and WHO experts will join a "similar number" of Chinese experts this weekend to come up with the next steps on the response to the ongoing coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak. The experts will take part in meetings, workshops and field visits in China to understand the impact the coronavirus is having on the local level.

The WHO head added that special attention will be paid to transmission and the impact of current measures. He pointed out that information on the deaths six, and infection of 1,760, Chinese health workers will be crucial for understanding the outbreak further. Ghebreyesus stressed that more data and protective equipment are needed to support China, and especially its health workers which are "working in difficult conditions."

The official went on to conclude that the world must adhere to "solidarity, not stigma" amid the outbreak which originated in China.
