WHO committee against vaccine passports

The World Health Organization (WHO) Emergency Committee on the coronavirus pandemic came out against proof of vaccination as a prerequisite for international travel in a statement on Monday.

The committee based its recommendation on "the limited (although growing) evidence about the performance of vaccines in reducing transmission and the persistent inequity in the global vaccine distribution." Consequently, it "strongly encouraged" State Parties to reconsider COVID-19 vaccine passports in order to promote the freedom of movement.

The European Union hopes to roll out digital certificates this summer that will prove an individual has either been vaccinated against the coronavirus or has recovered from the disease.
