Xi: Hope US, China carry on with talks to solve trade issues

Chinese President Xi Jinping stated on Tuesday that he agreed with his United States counterpart Donald Trump during their phone conversation earlier today that the two country's trade teams should keep talking to solve issues that are blocking a final trade agreement, Chinese state media reported.

Xi went on to say that US-China relations "have encountered some difficulties" recently, a fact he described as not being in the interest of both sides in the dispute. He also expressed hope that the US will treat his country's companies fairly in the trade negotiations leading up his meeting with Trump at next week's G20 summit.

Earlier today, Trump confirmed that he will have an "extended" meeting with Xi at next week's G20 summit in Osaka, Japan. The US president added that the trade delegations from both countries will continue talks in the run-up to the meeting.
