Xi Jinping: N. Korea-China bond 'sealed in blood'

During a meeting with officials from the North Korean ruling Workers' Party in Beijing, China's President Xi Jinping (pictured) referred to the longstanding relationship the two countries have as "sealed in blood," and vowed to work on strengthening it further.

The North Korean state news agency KCNA said that "China is attaching high importance to the work to propel the traditional friendship between the two countries sealed in blood to a higher stage as required by the new era," according to Xi's words. The Chinese president also expressed hope that North Korea and United States continue their dialogue, so that the goal of a denuclearized Korean peninsula can be achieved.

The delegation from Pyongyang was led by Pak Thae-song, the vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, who noted that economic development is currently a high priority for North Korea. Chinese hosts have been showing the officials from North Korea areas of high economic importance, such as the Zhongguancun High-tech Zone, sometimes referred to as China's Silicon Valley.
