Xi: US, China should expand cooperation

Chinese President Xi Jinping called on the United States to "expand cooperation" with his country and bring their bilateral relations "along the right track."

In a letter to his American counterpart Donald Trump released by the White House, Xi hailed progress in "some parts" of the trade negotiations between the two countries, singling out agriculture. He also stressed the importance of addressing both sides' "concerns properly" and making "positive headway in other areas" of the talks.

Earlier, Trump announced that Washington and Beijing reached a "substantial" deal in principle on some aspects, including agriculture and foreign exchange policy transparency. He added that significant progress was also made in the areas of financial services and technology during this week's talks.
