Zelensky says Ukraine ready for counteroffensive
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized on Saturday that his country stands prepared to launch a counteroffensive aimed at reclaiming territories occupied by Russia since the onset of the invasion in February of the previous year.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Zelensky acknowledged uncertainty regarding the duration required for Ukraine to achieve its goals but affirmed the readiness of its military to take action. Concurrently, he reiterated his appeal to NATO to provide a clear path for Kyiv's accession to the military alliance while urging the United States to increase the supply of Patriot anti-air systems to safeguard against Russian aerial attacks.
The US government has already provided over $37 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since the commencement of the conflict and has pledged further military aid. Nonetheless, Zelensky expressed concerns about potential shifts in US support due to next year's presidential election.
Former President Donald Trump, a leading candidate for the 2024 election, has repeatedly pledged to swiftly resolve the armed conflict without offering specific details on how this would be accomplished.
