Zuckerberg: Tech getting better at halting election interference

Big technology companies are getting better at preventing interference in elections around the world, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg testified before the United States Senate on Wednesday.

Furthermore, Zuckerberg stressed that Facebook managed to stop 100 networks that attempted to influence elections through coordination with law enforcement and other big tech companies. The social media network founder claimed that most election interference campaigns in the US come from Russia, Iran and China. However, Zuckerberg said that only the US government can stop Russia from interfering with "appropriate leverage" while Facebook can only identify when a foreign actor is trying to influence elections.

The head of Facebook also stressed that out of the 100 networks that had been taken down over the past few years, around 50% of them were domestic operations of election influence, not necessarily in the US.
