Japan’s jobless rate flat, retail sales, house spending down
Japan's unemployment rate stood at 3% in October, unchanged from the previous month, the government said Tuesday.
The country’s household spending dropped 0.4% from a year earlier, up from a previous 2.1% decline in September. This marks the eighth straight month the rate dropped. Retail sales, a measure showing domestic consumption, fell 0.1% in October from a year ago, following a 1.7% reduction in September.
Separate data showed the country's job-to-applicant ratio improved to 1.4 in October, meaning 140 positions were available for every 100 job seekers, according to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
