6.6-magnitude earthquake shakes New Zealand

A 6.6-magnitude earthquake hit New Zealand on Wednesday, data provided by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) showed.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the epicenter of the quake was some 643 kilometers southwest of Dunedin, home to around 114,000 people.

The tremor struck the region at a shallow 10.0 kilometers and it remains unknown as of yet whether any casualties or damages were suffered.
