Facebook 'invests millions to halt hate speech' - UK director

Facebook's director for the United Kingdom and Ireland Steve Hatch commented on Tuesday said the company has been investing millions to tackle hate speech on its platforms. The comments were made in response to the boycott of advertisements on social media by numerous companies.

"If we look at particularly the area of hate speech... our systems now detect and remove 90% automatically. Now that’s not perfect but we do know that's up from 23% a couple of years ago," he told BBC Radio 4 and added that "when there's hate in the world there will also be hate on Facebook."

The Menlo Park-based tech giant has been experiencing backlash from firms such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi&Co, Ford, Microsoft, and Adidas which have pulled out their ads from its platforms over disagreements with its moderation policy.
