AKK proposes Ziemiak for CDU secretary general

Germany's Christian Democratic Union (CDU) newly elected chairwoman Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (pictured) proposed on Saturday the head of the party's Junge Union Paul Ziemiak to be the next General-Secretary, position she occupied before becoming CDU leader. According to

Ziemiak was elected with 62.8% of the votes cast, as divisions within the party linger after a tense campaign for the successor of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, according to the Zeit newspaper.

Kramp-Karrenbauer, also known as AKK, was elected party leader yesterday, beating businessman Friedrich Merz, a stern critic of Merkel.
